Description
Tuesday, August 26 | 10:30AM – 4:00PM
Get ready to trade your office chair for a tractor seat—Ag Tour 2025 is back and better than ever with this year’s tasty theme:
“Beef: From Pasture to Plate.” 🚜🐄
Hosted by the Agri-Business Committee of the Portage County Business Council, this one-of-a-kind day trip is your exclusive behind-the-scenes pass to explore the local beef industry—from rotational grazing to the final bite. Bring your coworkers, your curiosity, and your appetite—it’s all happening rain or shine on Tuesday, August 26.
Where It All Begins
Start the day at Mission Coffee House in the Artist & Fare complex (1800 Plover Road, Plover).
10:30AM – Registration & complimentary coffee to-go (because every great adventure starts with caffeine). Free and easy parking on-site!
At 11:00AM, we board the bus and hit the back roads for a fun, flavor-filled journey through Portage County ag country.
First stop: Hintz Farms, a first-generation family operation where Matt, Sara, and their son Thomas raise Holstein steers, rotationally grazed beef cattle, and a mix of crops on 1,100 acres. You’ll hop on a tram for a guided pasture tour, get an up-close look at their finishing barn, and learn what makes their beef operation so unique.
Includes a hearty, farm-fresh lunch (indoors):
Hintz Farm hamburgers, baked potatoes with all the fixings, sweet corn, soda & water—prepared by the amazing Brady Patoka of Tomorrow River Charcoal.
🖥️ Also featuring:
A short, powerful presentation by Matt Hintz:
“What Got Us Here Won’t Get Us There: Adapting to a Changing Marketplace as a First-Generation Farm.”
Next, we head to Eron Beef, a cutting-edge family beef and grain farm founded by Dave Eron in 2012. Specializing in raising cattle to finished weights, Eron Beef supplies high-quality animals to local processors—and as far as Nebraska, Kansas, and Pennsylvania.
This tour is all about technology meets tradition. You’ll get an inside look at how Eron Beef combines land stewardship and animal care with state-of-the-art systems like:
- Slatted-floor barns with recycled truck tire mats
- Under-barn manure storage for sustainable management
- Automated climate control and high-definition video surveillance
- Electronic cattle ID systems
- Remote-controlled, high-efficiency field irrigation
- And yes—even a crop drone in action!
We’ll return to Plover around 3:30PM, and you’ll have the option to unwind with drinks and networking at O’so Brewing Company, just steps away from where we started. A local staple since 2007, O’so is home to award-winning brews and laid-back fun. Cash bar available.
