The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has announced the new dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC). Stuart Benkert, formerly head of Performing Arts and Technology at North Carolina State University, will begin July 14. Benkert succeeds Valerie Cisler, who is retiring after serving as dean for eight years. Explore all the outdoor fun the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Schmeeckle Reserve has in store this summer. Schmeeckle Reserve will host two “Nature Explorers” day camps June 16-26 and July 7-17 for children entering 3rd-6th grade. These camps will lead hands-on activities, including child-centered discovery hikes, wildlife watching, catching frogs and other pond animals, canoeing in the lake and more. Each camp will run Monday through Thursday from 1-4 p.m. for two weeks. Registration is $150

UW-Stevens Point to offer summer planetarium shows
Voyage into distant galaxies this June at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. Planetarium shows will be offered at 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays in June. The first female state forester in Wisconsin, a 2000 alum of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, will address graduates and their families at the spring Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 17. Heather Berklund, who has worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry for nearly 25 years, will address students, families and friends attending graduation.
